Music and technology have always shared a harmonious relationship, but it's the era of AI that's hitting the high notes now. If you've ever dreamt of releasing your own music but felt you lacked the skills or resources, I'm here to show you how it's possible – with a little help from artificial intelligence. In this blog, I'll walk you through how I created and published an AI-generated song under my own record label, Dagwood Gypsy Lantern, and onto Spotify. This is literally the coolest thing I've done with AI so far.
Step 1: Crafting the Lyrics with AI
The journey begins with penning down your lyrics. While many tools can generate music, I prefer to use ChatGPT for crafting the lyrical content. It allows for creative prompts and gives you control over the tone and style of your song. Whether you want a tongue-in-cheek piece or something that tugs at the heartstrings, this is where you start.
Step 2: Composing Music with Suno
Next up, you need a tune for those lyrics, and that's where Suno comes into play. It's an intuitive AI music creation tool that can bring your words to life. From setting the tempo to choosing the genre, Suno can handle it. But remember, you might need to tweak things a bit – especially if you have too many lyrics for the tune!
Step 3: Designing Your Album Cover
An eye-catching album cover is just as important as the music. For this, you can also seek AI's assistance or use your creativity to design something that represents your song's essence. I suggest just using DALL-E I also suggest that you just create the image and then add text after using some sort of image tool like Photoshop.
Step 4: Publishing Your Song
Once you have your song and cover ready, it's time to publish. First, head to Spotify for Artists to get started on the platform. You don't actually publish through Spotify. However, it is good to go to the "How To" section which provides good step by step instructions. But also provide a list of distributors.

Then, choose a music distributor. I went with DistroKid, which is a fantastic platform for uploading your music and managing your releases. You also create your record label with DistroKid. For my video, I only published to Spotify. However, you can publish to several places at once at this stage
Step 5: Claiming Your Label and Artist Profile
To tie everything together, you'll want to claim your artist profile on Spotify. This gives you access to the Spotify Artist Dashboard and lets you manage your presence on the streaming service. You can start the process here.
Once you're set up, your song could take a few days to go live, but once it does, you'll be able to watch your creation reach listeners worldwide.
A Note on Royalties
When your music is on Spotify, every play counts. These streams can translate into royalties, which means your AI-generated songs could start earning money. Isn't that something? They are paid via Distrokid and can be collected once your bank reaches $5.
Wrapping Up
Creating music with AI is a journey that blends creativity with technology. My own experience, from the initial song that was just an experiment, to the second tune which I felt was quite decent, has shown me the potential of AI in music production.
So, if you've ever wanted to release your own music, now's the time. With AI, you can compose, publish, and even collect royalties – all under your own label. Check out my video Publishing AI Music to Spotify where I dive into this process step by step.
And finally, if you find value in this content, consider visiting my website, AI DIY.tech, and supporting a cause close to my heart – providing corrective eye surgery in remote Indonesian villages through the John Fawcett Foundation. Your support can make a world of difference.
Stay tuned, and let's hit play on this AI music revolution.
