AI tools are evolving fast, and now we’ve got Grok, Elon Musk’s AI model, stepping into the ring against ChatGPT. But how well does it perform for AI musicians, songwriters, and video editors? Can it really compete with ChatGPT for music-related tasks?
I put Grok vs. ChatGPT to the test specifically for AI-generated music workflows, and the results were… interesting. In this breakdown, I’ll go over everything I tested and what you, as an AI music creator, should know.
What’s the Big Deal About Grok?
So, Grok is Elon Musk’s AI, integrated with X (formerly Twitter). It’s designed to be more conversational, edgy, and less restrictive than other AI models. But the big question for us AI musicians is:
✅ Can Grok write good AI-generated lyrics?
✅ Does it help with AI music creation workflows?
✅ Can it generate visuals that work for AI music videos?
I put it to the test against ChatGPT, and here’s what happened.
AI Music Showdown: Grok vs. ChatGPT
To really see how these AIs perform, I ran them through a series of tests, focusing on how they handle AI music and content creation.
AI Lyric Writing Test The Challenge: I asked both Grok and ChatGPT to write a satirical song about chubby AI models being disappointed in men’s unrealistic beauty standards. (Yeah, I went there. 😂)
Results:
ChatGPT created witty, well-structured lyrics with great rhyming and flow.
Grok took a more edgy, sarcastic approach but lacked the same depth.
Winner: ChatGPT – its lyrics were just more polished and creative.
AI Image Generation Test
The Challenge: I asked both AIs to generate an image of Elon Musk and see if they’d comply.
Results:
ChatGPT flat-out refused (expected).
Grok actually did it… but with weird, distorted text on the image.
Winner: Grok (kinda) – It at least tried, but the execution wasn’t great.
AI Video Creation Test
The Challenge: I tested Runway ML v3, Kling, and DreamWorks AI to see if they could create a video based on an image of Elon Musk.
Results:
Runway ML & DreamWorks refused to generate anything Musk-related.
Kling actually processed the image but took 3 hours (free version delays).
Final video? Somewhat realistic but still kinda janky.
Winner: None. AI video tools still struggle with custom image inputs.
Grok’s General AI Music Capabilities
I also wanted to see if Grok can be useful for AI musicians beyond just writing lyrics.
What Grok did well:
✅ Gave decent music workflow ideas
✅ Was more relaxed about "controversial" topics
✅ Offered unique songwriting angles
What Grok struggled with:
❌ Lacked music theory knowledge
❌ Couldn’t generate structured song melodies
❌ Had limited understanding of AI music tools
Winner: ChatGPT – Still the better AI for serious AI music creators
Final Verdict – Should AI Musicians Use Grok?
While Grok is fun, it’s not a serious replacement for ChatGPT when it comes to AI music workflows. If you’re looking for:
Best AI for songwriting? ChatGPT
Best AI for visuals? Still a work in progress…
Best AI for video creation? Runway ML / Kling (but limited)
Grok is worth experimenting with, but if you’re serious about AI music production, ChatGPT is still the better tool for now.
